What does this device do?
The Dual Input Mother Machine is designed for long-term growth and monitoring of rod-shaped bacteria (e.g. E. coli, B. subtilis, etc) in precisely controlled environmental conditions. Environment control is achieved using a dial-a-wave design which allows fast switching, no back flow and arbitrary mixture of two input media.
Don't forget to check the attached DIMM's handbook, as well as MoMA, the companion software dedicated to image analysis of mother machine datasets.
The Dual Input Mother Machine has been designed in the van Nimwegen lab at Biozentrum (Basel University). Masters for this design can be ordered from micro resist technology GmbH (specify to use the mask "Kaiser dec2014").
